My name is Bernard Stienen and I am currently working in the Multisensory Cognition Group of Trinity College in the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (TCIN) which is led by PI Dr. Fiona Newell.
Just recently I submitted my PhD thesis. The main focus of my
research is the unravelling of automatic visual processing of emotional body expressions and how this is related to visual awareness. I use e.g. visual masking techniques and binocular rivalry designs combined with several neurological methods such as TMS, EEG, fMRI to investigate these processes and their relations. In addition, I also performed multisensory experiments. My promotor was Dr. Beatrice de Gelder and I have conducted this research at Tilburg University (Tilburg, NL), La Sapienza (Rome, IT), Hopital de la Salpetriere (Paris, FR) and collaborated with several other universities such as Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule Zuerich (CH).
I regularly present my work at conferences and as a guest lecturer within the area of psychology,
psychobiology, cognitive neuroscience and psychonomics.
